Playa (Band)

Playa was an American Contemporary R & B trio consisting of Steve " Static" Garrett, Smokey and Black. In 1997 she had a minor hit with the song Cheers 2 U.

Band History

All members of the trio are from Kentucky. They sang first in various churches Gospel and performed at local talent shows. There, leaning against their style to the group Jodeci. They were daraughin taken from the record company Swing Mob contract, which collaborated with Elektra Records. It never came to a publication, so that they separated again by the label.

Def Jam took the trio then as a third Artists by Montell Jordan and Neko Case for her Contemporary R & B label "Def Soul" under contract. 1997 appeared the first single Do not Stop the Music, which represented a moderate success with space 73 of the U.S. Billboard charts and ranked # 26 of the R & B charts. 1998 could Playa Cheers 2 U then the album release, which was produced by Timbaland and Smokey. The single of the same climbed to number 38 on the Billboard charts and was able to reach the top 10 in the R & B charts. The album itself placed to number 86 in the charts.

Since 1999, a second Playa album was announced, but it never came about. However, it appeared a few singles, also were on some soundtracks, including published for Dr. Dolittle and Blue Streak, diverse songs. Stephen Garrett began a career as a music producer.
