Playa Mayabeque

The Playa Mayabeque is about 15 miles from the center of Melena del Sur, south of the province of Havana, Cuba. Their waters are muddy, and some of the residents of the area to write them healing powers.

History

According to historians, it was this coast, where the city of San Cristóbal de La Habana was founded in 1515 for the first time, before it was moved to the north coast. Therefore, in the arms of Melena del Sur, the Latin phrase " HIC EST PRIMO HABANA condita " appears ( where Havana was founded for the first time ).

Vegetation

The vegetation consists mainly of mangrove and casuarina trees. The latter threatened to disappear due to forest fires. There are also other plant species, including trees such as coconut palms and almond trees.

Water

At the Playa Mayabeque open several tributaries of the Río Mayabeque. The most important of these tributaries opens at the beginning of the beach; through the area along the beach to flow more tributaries. The water of these rivers is usually all day cold.

The beach is muddy in its entire length. This type of sludge are attributed healing properties. In some parts of the beach are frequently found small colonies of termites, which serve fish and other marine animals as food.

Population and infrastructure

The population density of the area is low. Few houses are inhabited year-round. The rest is used by fishermen for short stays.

The houses are mostly of wood or straw roofed with guano; only a few are solid constructed. Nevertheless, they are often destroyed partially or completely because of their proximity to the beach of tropical cyclones.

The beach is supplied all year round during the day from a coffee shop; during the holiday period the offer is varied by state organizations and private owners who move during the months of July and August in this area.

The transport is quite limited outside the holiday season.

Tourism

In the summer this beach is not only visited by swimmers from the environment, but also from other places. The water of the rivers is very popular with children, the sea is for swimmers of interest.

In recent years there has been a tendency for the number of people engaged in sport fishing to increase, causing some rustic boats that serve this purpose surfaced.
