Plougonvelin

Plougonvelin ( Plougonvelen Breton ) is a commune with 3828 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the north- west of Brittany in the département of Finistère.

Location

The community is located near the Atlantic Ocean coast at the mouth of the Bay of Brest ( Rade de Brest) into the open sea. Brest is 18 kilometers (km ) southeast of Paris and about 520 km to the east (in straight line ). At the Pointe de Saint Mathieu, the Côte des Abers begins.

Infrastructure

In Brest the highways end E 50 (Brest - Rennes) and E 60 (Brest -Nantes ). The train station of Brest is the end of TGV Atlantique to Paris as well as the regional train lines in the direction of Rennes and Nantes. Close to the capital city of Brest is the regional airport Aéroport de Brest Bretagne.

Attractions

Worth seeing in the well established tourist coastal resort include the Pointe de Saint Mathieu with the 1835 built 37 meter high lighthouse of Saint Mathieu and built to protect the strategic entrance to the harbor of Brest in the 17th century Fort de Bertheaume.
