Pluméliau

Pluméliau ( Breton: Pluniav ) is a commune with 3602 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pays de Baud.

Location

Pluméliau located in the southern part of central Brittany and part of the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are Bieuzy the northwest, Le Sourn in the north, Saint- Thuriau in the northeast, Moustoir Remungol in the east, in the southeast Remungol, Guénin and Saint -Barthélemy in the south and Melrand in the southwest.

In a north-south direction, the D 768 leads through the church, the connection from Pontivy to Auray.

Demographics

History

The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro - Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Bro Baod (French Pays de Baud) and shares his story. In the time of the French Revolution, it was until 1801 an independent canton. Since then, it forms a municipality in the canton baud. On July 29, 1944, nine members of the Resistance were summarily executed in Pluméliau.
