Band History

Beginnings in Nottingham

The five members of this " crashing airline " in 1973 met at the art school. For a film project investigated Stephenson, Hunt, drummer Simon Bladon, and two other guitarists, including Richard Booth, a band. Since they do not have find the place, they established themselves unceremoniously one who - as they should be called in the movie so - The Brothel Creepers called. Soon after the movie was filmed, they played their first concerts - dance parties at the university. Their music was influenced by Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Poco, Love or Captain Beefheart. One of the first songs the band was " Silver Shirt " (as most of the material written by Stephenson ), they played live from the beginning, as received in 1976 as a single for Stiff Records.

Szenehit in London

1974 replaced Keith Gothe Ridge drummer Simon Bladon; Duncan Kerr came as a guitarist for a founding member Ken. For a time called the band now Glider. After they got the first gigs in London, they gave themselves the name of Plummet Airlines. They played at the Hope & Anchor Club whose studio was headed at the time by Stiff founder Dave Robinson. There they met Malcolm Morley (formerly at Help Yourself, Man), with whom she went on a tour to Holland in 1976. On this tour they played together with Clancy, the band of Morley's former bandmate Ernie Graham.

Morley took with Plummet Airlines as a backing band ( and with Ian Gomm of Brinsley Schwarz, who also produced ) an LP, which, however, was not published until a quarter century later. John Peel invited the plummets twice to participate in its sessions. They also played as the opening act for bands like Van der Graaf Generator, Huey Lewis and Mallard. The single on Stiff ( produced by Sean Tyla ) was followed by another in 1977, " It's Hard " (on State Records ). The Plummet Airlines were great as a live band and had at least in the UK an enthusiastic audience. But the band's management failed to negotiate a longer recording contract. Meanwhile the punk went off, and the band members were at odds, should go in which direction their music. This led to the separation.

After the separation

Stephenson then worked at the Harry & the atom project; In 1981 he presented for Hedon Records a double album with the best of what the Plummet Airlines had ever captured on audio recordings, including live recordings from the Hope & Anchor. Booth went to Brainiac 5 and later to Audio Murphy ( where he reunited with Duncan Kerr, who played in the meantime with Keith Gothe Ridge at the darts. ) Darryl Hunt was the bassist for the Pogues. In August 2004 there was a reunion concert in Nottingham. And in April 2006, kick some former Plummet Airlines members as Richard Booth band in the UK.
