Podunajské Biskupice

Podunajské Biskupice (up to 1944 Slovak " Biskupice pri Dunaji " - to 1927 " Biskupice "; German Bischdorf; Hungarian Pozsonypüspöki - to 1907 Püspöki ) a formerly independent town and district in the south-east of Bratislava today is to the left of the Danube.

Description and History

The largest part of the area according to the Slovak capital was in 1221, other sources speak of 1254 for the first time mentioned.

Since 1 January 1972, the town belongs to the district of Bratislava. In 2006, was pursued by the Lower Austrian market town of Orth a partnership.

Culture and sights

The Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas dates from the 13th century. 1730 Baroque Trinity Column was erected. There is also a Greek-Catholic church and monastery of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross; in the monastery church, the remains of the Blessed Zdenka Schelingová be worshiped since 2003.
