Poggio Rusco

Poggio Rusco is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6488 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy. The community is located about 33 kilometers southeast of Mantua and directly borders the province of Modena (Emilia -Romagna).

History

While the actual place name until 1332 appears in a document, is the area around Poggio Rusco already in 1082 by Otto III. been presented to the Bishop of Mantua, in order to please the Countess Matilde di Canossa.

Community partnership

Poggio Rusco maintains a partnership with the French community Condé- sur- Noireau in the department of Calvados.

Traffic

Due to the community run the Strada Statale 12 dell'Abetone e del Brenner ( from Verona to Modena) and the former State Road 496 Virgiliana (now provincial road from Mantua to Ferrara). The station of Poggio Rusco is served by trains on the railway line Verona -Bologna and trains on the railway line Suzzara - Ferrara.
