Politics Can Be Different

Lehet Más a Politika (LMP; German Politics can be different) is a political party in Hungary. It was founded in 2009 from a previously incurred in non-governmental organization out who had a reform of the political system in Hungary and the Hungarian polarized political culture to the target.

The LMP is since November 2011 a full member of the European Green Party.

One of the main themes of the LMP include environmental protection and sustainability and the fight against widespread corruption among the political elite of Hungary. To overcome the currently strong polarization of the Hungarian party system and society between apparently irreconcilable opposing left and partly extreme right positions, the LMP is to promote a deliberative style of politics, which should lead to a comprehensive participation of all strata of society in the political system. This often complained distance (and the resulting politics ) between elites and the people shall be reduced.

History

In the European elections of 2009, the LMP at 2.6 % of the vote, which was a moderate success; However, they missed this representation in the European Parliament.

András Schiffer was the top candidate of the LMP for the parliamentary elections in 2010. The party won in the election 7.44% of the vote and skipped the force in Hungary five-percent hurdle.

The Hungarian Pirate Party Kalózpárt who had joined the LMP and the LMP worked as a working group in 2012 seceded from the LMP. The end of 2012 came from eight of the 15 parliamentarians from the LMP after Schiffer cooperation with the Socialist MSZP or the opposition platform "Together 2014 " refused, however, did not rule out a collaboration with the far-right Jobbik. Under the leadership of previous party leader Benedek Jávor the beaten MPs founded in February 2013 a new party under the name of dialogue for Hungary.
