Polytechnic of Namibia

The Polytechnic of Namibia ( Polytechnic of Namibia, often abbreviated as poly or Polytech ) is a Polytechnic in Namibia and adjacent to the University of Namibia one of the largest universities in Namibia. The main campus is located in Windhoek West district around the former maternity ward with the Elizabeth House.

The Polytechnic in 2012 reached the 21th place (2011: 30 Rank) of the best universities in Africa.

History and teaching understanding

The Polytechnic of Namibia has its origin in the established " Academy for Tertiary Education " 1980 ( Academy of tertiary education). The Polytechnic of Namibia is 1994, from the " Technikon Namibia " and the " College for Out-of- School Training" (COST ) emerged and in 1996 an independent educational institution. during 2009, the application for renaming in Namibia 's University of Science and Technology ( NUST ) has been at the Namibian Ministry of Education officially filed to reflect the broad scope of duties of the Polytechnic in the name. the application was in August 2010 rejected. In December 2012, the renaming and the transfer of training to bachelor's and master's degree programs were approved by the relevant ministry.

The university teaching programs aim to meet the practical needs of the Namibian industry for graduates, an important branch of the economy of Namibia. The teaching program of the Polytechnic is in English and includes not only the originial certificate, diploma, bachelor and master degree programs (eg, computer science, civil engineering, conservation, mining ) for the academic year 2010 also doctoral programs.
