It belongs to the circle ( concelho ) of Santa Cruz das Flores and has 358 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

Geography and transport

In Ponta Delgada, the main island road R 1-2 that leads Flores on the east coast via Santa Cruz to Lajes begins. The neighboring village of Faja Grande southwestern be reached directly only about an old mule track, which today as trail ( PR 1 FLO) is signposted.

History and Sights

Ponta Delgada was founded in the second half of the 16th century and is one of the three oldest communities on Flores. The Igreja de São Pedro in the town center was built in 1763 on the site of an earlier chapel. Two kilometers west of Ponta Delgada is at Cape Ponta do Albarnaz in 1925 was put into operation westerly lighthouse in Europe, the Farol do Albarnaz.
