Popești-Leordeni
Popeşti - Leordeni is a town in Ilfov County in Romania.
Location
Popeşti - Leordeni is the Wallachian Plain, directly on the southeastern outskirts of Bucharest. The center of the Romanian capital, is approximately 8 km away.
History
The present city was made up of three villages: Popeşti - Conduratu (or Pavlicheni ) Popeşti - Români and Leordeni. They were first mentioned in 1530. 1828 - during the Russo -Turkish War - Roman Catholics from the region of Nikopol (Bulgaria) were settled on the territory of the municipality.
The main industries are the textile and food industries, and trade and commerce. Many residents commute to work in Bucharest.
Population
As of the 2002 census lived in Popeşti - Leordeni 15 115 people, including 14 915 Romanians, 164 Roma and Hungary 12.
Traffic
Popeşti - Leordeni does not have a rail connection. The city is located on the National Road 4 from Bucharest to Olteniţa. It is connected by bus services to the public transport system of Bucharest.
