Porcia (gens)

The Porcier (Latin gens Porcia or Porcii ) was a Roman Plebejerfamilie. She came from Tusculum. The name Porcus (German pig) to go back to the fact that the pig one of the sources of income was gens. Since the second half of the 3rd century BC, they made numerous magistrates, but still no consul, and developed as one of the most influential families. There were many branches of Porcier, the most important were the Licini, Catones and Lacae. With Marcus Porcius Cato the Elder, the family put in 195 BC, the first consul in the year 184 BC, Lucius Porcius Licinius, the second line was consul.
