Portland Timbers (1975–82)
The Portland Timbers were an American football team from Portland, Oregon, which played to 1982 from 1975 in the North American Soccer League.
History
In January 1975, the NASL awarded an expansion franchise to Portland. The name was selected on March 8, 1975, after more than 3,000 proposals were received. The game operation took the team on the same year and was able to reach the final of the Soccer Bowl. There they lost to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-0. During this season, the team gained great popularity in Portland. This results in the nickname " Soccer City USA".
1976 and 1977 could not be reached the play-offs. Even in the years it managed the team no longer in the final of the play-offs. 1982, dissolved the Timbers.
