Portuguese Handball Federation

The Federação Portuguesa de Andebol (FPA, port. for: Portuguese Handball Federation ) is the governing body for handball in Portugal. The FPA has its headquarters in Lisbon. She was co-organizer of the European Handball Championship in 1994 and the Men's Handball World Championship Men 2003 in Portugal.

History

After the German -born Armando Tschopp published in November 1929, the handball rules in the Portuguese sports newspaper Sports, handball became known to a wider public in Portugal. The first official handball game was held in Porto on 31 January 1931. In 1931 the first Handball Federation was founded in Lisbon, followed by 1932, the Association of Porto. 1932 Championships were first played in Lisbon and Porto, and in 1934 came the first time a selection from Porto to Lisbon a selection. So far, handball was played only as field handball, also called 11er 's handball in Portugal after his team's strength.

On the initiative of Handball Associations of Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra, the FPA was founded in 1939. In 1946 she was a founding member of the International Handball Federation. Organization

The FPA is a founding member of the World Handball Federation IHF and EHF European Handball Federation. She is also a member of the Comité Olímpico de Portugal, the National Olympic Committee of Portugal.

President Manuel Brandão is Ulisses Pereira. In addition to the Executive Committee and the General Assembly of the FPAs has five other institutions:

Competitions and activities

The FPA operates through its resident in Porto Liga Portuguesa de Andebol (LPA ) is a first Handball League Men ( Campeonato Português de Andebol Masculino, Primeira Divisão ) with twelve teams. This is followed by a two-pronged ( Zona Norte and Zona Sul ) second division with 14 teams, and a multi-faceted third league, above the league operations of the district associations. In the women's handball there are two leagues, in addition to the first division with 12 clubs a multi-faceted second division. There are also youth leagues and cup competitions, especially the Supercup both the men and the women. Record champion of the first Handball League is for men of FC Porto, with 41 titles, followed by Académico Basket Clube from Braga ( Braga ABC ) with 35 titles.

The FPA also organizes the participation of Portuguese handball national teams in international competitions, especially the Olympics, World, European and Mediterranean Championships.

Other activities include, inter alia, Handball competitions for the disabled, the training of arbitrators, training of trainers, and the implementation of promotional activities for the sport of handball in Portugal.

Indicators

In the FPA balance of the year 2012 the total expenditure of € 5,005,084 were a total income of € 5,029,959 against. After deduction of taxes, there remained a net profit of € 13,124.

The most significant source of revenue with 50.54 % state grants, which were thereby reduced by the public sector in the sign of the ongoing euro crisis before by 17%. The largest expenditure items with 50.69 % direct sports expenses of the FPA.

In 2012, the FPA had 40 454 registered members, 18,138 of whom played active in organized competitions of the Association.
