President of Kosovo

The President of the Republic of Kosovo is elected according to the Constitution by the Kosovar Parliament. The first president until his death in January 2006, Ibrahim Rugova of the Democratic League.

After the resignation of elected on 22 February 2011 President Mr. Pacolli ( AKR ) on 31 March 2011 exercised provisionally Jakup Krasniqi ( PDK) the business of the President until April 7, was chosen as Atifete Jahjaga by Parliament by 80 votes. She is the first female head of state.

According to an agreement between the PDK, LDK and AKR In a period of six to twelve months after the election of the President should the Constitution be changed. In the future, the head of state should be elected directly by the people in order to further political crises, in order to prevent the election of a president. The presidential election is scheduled for 2012.
