President of the Senate

The Senate President is the chairman of a Senate designated as an institution. As the term Senate has a variety of forms, the importance of the Senate President on a case by case differs.

Germany

In Germany, the Senate President is a former official name for the presiding judge to the upper state courts and the federal courts. In the district courts, the presiding judge of the Regional Court were called directors. With the reform of official titles in the higher judicial service in the 1970s, the title of President of the Senate was abolished and the Service Name Presiding Judge at the High Court or the Supreme Administrative Court, Tax Court, District Court or any other High Court at the country level and Chief Judge of the Federal Court or any other Court of the Federal replaced.

The designation of the Government of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is President of the Senate.

In the Free City of Danzig Senate President from 1920 to 1939 was the chairman of the Senate ( Government and local authority ).

United States

According to the Constitution of the United States, the Vice President is also the President of the Senate. However, this office is mainly ceremonial in nature, the daily official duties by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. The Vice- President shall exercise his office as President of the Senate usually only true, to preside during the State of the Union Address and casting a decisive vote in case of equality.

In the U.S. states of the respective State Senate also have a Senate President. Often it is the Lieutenant Governor of each State. Also, this is a president pro tempore to the side.

Argentina
