The Stade Moulay Abdallah is a football stadium with track and field facility in the Moroccan city of Rabat. It can accommodate 52,000 spectators and serves the club FAR Rabat as homestead.
History
The Stade Moulay Abdallah in Rabat, the capital and second largest city of Morocco, was built in 1983 and still opened in the same year. Since then, the club FAR Rabat plays its home games from this stadium. The club was until now twelve times Moroccan football champions, where everyone could celebrate five title wins in this stadium. In addition, so far succeeded ten times the income of the Moroccan Football Cup. Also at the continental level FAR has already been successful, they won once each the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, in 1985 and 2005. Besides FAR Rabat also carries another club from the capital city of Morocco, namely FUS de Rabat, home matches at the Stade Moulay Abdallah. However, this small club plays mostly in the 15,000 -seat Stade Al Fath and differs only for games with larger number of spectators to the Stade Moulay Abdallah. The national football team of Morocco, which has qualified four times until today for the Football World Cup, Stade Moulay Abdallah uses as the venue for some home games.
The Stade Moulay Abdallah was one of the host of the African Cup of Nations 1988. The tournament took four games in this stadium instead, the other rose slightly larger Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, then permitted to continue for more than 80,000 spectators. From the Moroccan Football Federation, the stadium has also been proposed to host the football World Cup in 2006 and 2010 respectively, for their alignment to Morocco but unsuccessfully applied. In addition to football competitions and athletics competitions take place in the 52,000 -making stadium. So here the Meeting International Mohammed VI d' Athlétisme de Rabat is held every year since 2008 in which always meet many good athletes from around the world and fight for the victory in the competitions.
