The Stade de Marrakech ( German Stadium of Marrakech, Arabic: ملعب مراكش ) is a football stadium in the Moroccan city Marrakech with a capacity of 45,240 seats, 36,300 of which are covered. The sports center has, despite its rectangular shape, also a track and field facility with eight lanes. The Stade de Marrakech is owned by the state.

History

Construction on the stadium began in September 2003. The budget for the construction was between 935 million and 1 billion MAD (about 76-90 million euros ). The venue was provided as part of the Moroccan application to host the Football World Cup 2010, but the award went to South Africa. Nevertheless, we continued to work at the stadium, and after seven years and three months of construction, it was inaugurated on 5 January 2011 with the friendly matches of Kawkab Marrakech and Wydad Casablanca against the French sides Olympique Lyon and Paris Saint- Germain. The remaining 42,610 seats are intended for the public. Inside the stadium, there is a restaurant for up to 300 people, 24 snacks / Kiosks and 14 VIP boxes. The stadium has a press room with an area of ​​1,000 m² and a first- aid center.

Since there were riots by hooligans in the first home games of Kawkab Marrakech, 98 surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the stadium.
