Princess Elisabeth of Saxony

Princess Maria Elisabeth Amalie Franziska Sophia Maximiliana Ludovica Leopoldine Anna Baptista Xaveria Nepomucena of Saxony ( born February 4, 1830 in Dresden, † August 14 1912 in Stresa ) was by marriage Princess of Savoy - Carignan and Duchess of Genoa.

Life

Princess Elizabeth was the second daughter of the Saxon King John I (1801-1873) and his wife Princess Amalie Auguste of Bavaria ( 1801-1877 ). This was the fourth child of the second marriage of King Maximilian I Joseph with the Princess Karoline Friederike Wilhelmine of Baden and the twin sister of Queen Elizabeth of Prussia. Elizabeth's paternal grandparents were Prince Maximilian of Saxony and Princess Caroline of Bourbon- Parma.

On 22 April 1850, the 20 -year-old Mary Elizabeth married in Dresden Maximiliana the Duke of Genoa, Prince Ferdinand Maria of Savoy - Carignan ( 1822-1855 ), second son of King Charles Albert of Sardinia - Piedmont and the Princess Maria Theresa of Austria - Tuscany. From this marriage two children were born:

• Margaret (1851-1926) ∞ 1868 King Umberto I of Italy ( 1844-1900 )
• Thomas Albert Victor (1854-1931), 2nd Duke of Genoa ∞ 1883 Princess Isabella of Bavaria ( 1863-1924 )

After the early death of her husband she went on October 4th, 1856 in Agliè not befitting a marriage with the Italian nobleman Nicolo Effisio Giuseppe Marchese Rapallo ( 1825-1882 ) a. The second marriage, which was described as not happy, remained childless. Elizabeth died in 1912 in Stresa on Lake Maggiore.
