Elisabeth Sophia of Saxe- Altenburg ( * October 10, 1619 in Halle ( Saale), † December 20, 1680 in Gotha ) was a Princess of Saxe -Altenburg from the House of Wettin Ernestine and by marriage Duchess of Saxe- Gotha.

Life

Elisabeth Sophia was the only child of Duke Johann Philipp of Saxe- Altenburg (1597-1639) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1593-1650), daughter of Duke Heinrich Julius of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel. Elisabeth Sophia married on October 24, 1636 in Altenburg, Ernst the Pious, the 1640 Duke of Saxe- Gotha. As dowry Elisabeth Sophia received 20,000 florins, as the Office Roßla was pledged as security.
