Province of Biella

The Biella ( Italien. Provincia di Biella) province is a province of the Piedmont region. Capital is Biella. It has around 188,000 inhabitants in 82 municipalities covering an area of 914 km ².

The province was established by a law of 1992 and entered into force in 1996. It is bordered to the west by the Aosta Valley and is surrounded by the province of Turin in the west and the province of Vercelli in the north, east and south.

Culture and sights

Sacro Monte di Oropa

Sacro Monte di Oropa was built from 1617 onwards in addition to the already existing Marian pilgrimage church, which is one of the oldest places of worship in Piedmont and is of the utmost importance for the believers. He is a famous pilgrimage site since 2003 and is recognized by UNESCO as one of the Sacri Monti as a World Heritage Site.
