Province of Syracuse

The Syracuse (Italian Provincia di Siracusa) Province is one of the nine provinces of the Autonomous Region of Sicily of the Republic of Italy. Capital is Syracuse.

The province is located in the southeast of Sicily on the Ionian Sea. In the north and northwest it borders on the province of Catania, on the southwest by the province of Ragusa. It is divided into 21 municipalities. Covering an area of ​​2108 km ² is home to around 399 469 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

The capital city of Syracuse with numerous archaeological finds from the ancient Greek necropolis of Pantalica and the late Baroque towns of Noto and Palazzolo Acreide were declared a World Heritage Site.
