Prvić

Prvić is an island in the Šibenik archipelago in the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the Croatian Šibenik-Knin County.

Geography

Prvić is located about 1.3 km from the mainland to the small town of Srima. After Vodice there are the boat almost 3 km, to Šibenik about 8.5 km.

The island is 3.1 km long and 1.35 km wide. Its coastline is 10.6 km long because of two bays. Prvić is protected by the offshore islands Tijat and Logorum from the open Adriatic. The center of the island forms a flat, Vitkovič called ridge that rises to 79 m. In a small bay on its north-western side is the place Šepurine; approximately 1.5 km to the southeast in an open, sheltered bay is the place Prvić Luka.

Population

According to the census of 2001, the island has 453 inhabitants.

Culture and Religion

The places Prvić Luka and Šepurine are protected as cultural heritage.

On the island there are three Roman Catholic churches, a small medieval in Šepurine and a slightly larger from the 19th century overlooking the village, as well as in Prvić Luka.

In the church in Prvić Luka, the famous polymath, diplomat and inventor Fausto Veranzio was ( Faust Vrančić, 1551-1617 ) buried whose native of Sibenik family above Šepurine had their summer residence, where he spent part of his childhood. The building is still owned by the family.

Economy and infrastructure

Tourism is next to agriculture and fishing, the most important, but modest given the size of the island industry. There is a smaller hotel on the harbor of Prvić Luka, otherwise privately rented houses and guest rooms.

There are on the island of no motor vehicle traffic, only the fire department is motorized.

From Vodice from there by boat to Šepurine and Prvić Luka. Also from Šibenik from there is a link on the neighboring island of Zlarin.
