Puerto San José is a port city on the Pacific coast of Guatemala and has about 25,000 inhabitants. Puerto San José is the administrative center of the greater community ( municipality ) in the department of Escuintla San José.

Location and climate

The city is located about 110 km south of Guatemala City at the beginning of the highway CA 9 to Guatemala City. The climate is tropical, hot, rainy season lasts from May to October.

Economy and Tourism

Puerto San José was until the 1970s the most important Pacific port of Guatemala and end point of coming from Atlanikhafen Puerto Barrios railway. History

In colonial times, the already used by Pedro de Alvarado, 13 km east of Puerto San José preferred port of Iztapa was the gateway to the Pacific Guatemala. It was not until 1853 Puerto San José was founded. The first inhabitants came mainly from Amatitlán and Escuintla. 1982, Hurricane David severe damage in Puerto San José.
