Punta Loyola

Punta Loyola is a place in the department Güer Aike in the province of Santa Cruz in Argentina.

The place is about 20 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Santa Cruz, Río Gallegos, on the southern side of the estuary ( Ria ) of Río Gallegos, where this opens into the South Atlantic. On the north side of the estuary is located about 7 km north of the Estancia Cabo Buen Tiempo and a point of the coast guard of the same name.

In Punta Loyola, the RN hit 40, the longest road in Argentina and the railway line, with the Presidente Illia Muelle, the loading dock, connects the deposits of the Rio Turbio ( Yacimiento Rio Turbio / YCRT ). Here is storage for coal as well as crude oil. In the vicinity of Punta Loyola, there are some oil and gas sources.

Punta Loyola is a destination for the residents of Santa Cruz and the province, as is there since 1911, the steel shell of the British coal steamer Marjorie Glen on the beach. On September 19, 1911, the Windjammer by the crew was set aground after the 1800 had ignited tons of coal from Newcastle in the North of England itself. The cargo had been destined for the trading firm Brown and Blanchard in Santa Cruz.
