Pye Records

Pye Records was a British record label.

Company History

The Pye Radio Company originally sold television and radio sets. In the record market forced the company when she was shopping at Nixa Records in 1953. 1955 acquired Pye also Polygon Records, a label that was founded by Alan A. Freeman and Leslie Clark, the father of Petula Clark.

The two labels were combined to Pye Nixa Records. In 1959, the name was changed in Pye Records, and British television station Associated Television Network ( ATV) took over 50 % of the company. ATV bought 1966 and the other half of the Company. Two other labels were created in the 1960s: Pye Golden Guinea Records and Piccadilly Records. They were in the 1970s, replaced by Dawn Records. When the rights to the name Pye expired in 1980, the label to PRT Records (Precision Records & Tapes) named.

1958 Pye International Records had also been launched. This label sales in the UK many U.S. record labels such as Chess Records, A & M Records, Kama Sutra Records, Buddah Records, Casablanca Records and King Records.
