The Expressway 17 is a freeway in South Korea. The road is a short north-south route between Pyeongtaek and Suwon in the region south of Seoul. The line is currently 27 km long and 30 km more are under construction.

Street Description

The highway begins west of Pyeongtaek, a small town about 60 kilometers south of Seoul. The highway runs due north through a flat surface and then crossing the Expressway 40 The highway runs west of the U.S. base and the city of Osan along and then crossing the Expressway 400, which forms a link with the Expressway 1 to Seoul. The highway ends south of Suwon on a side street.

History

The highway was approved in 2004 and May 2005, construction began on the highway. On 29 October 2009 the highway was opened with the current length of 27 kilometers. The highway should the expressway 1 on the local traffic between Pyeongtaek, Osan Airbase and relieve the southern suburbs of Seoul. In this area, new infrastructure has been built, including the new highway a lot.

In April 2011, the highway heading north was begun with the construction of a 29.5 km long portion, which ends at the intersection of the Expressway 15. This highway is expected to open in April 2016.
