Qorako‘l

Qorakol ( Қоракўл ) ( usbek. )

Qorakol (of Qora, "black", and kol, "lake"; Cyrillic Қоракўл; Russian Каракуль Karakul ) is a city in the Uzbek province of Bukhara, located about 55 km southwest of the provincial capital, Bukhara to 197 m above sea level. Qorakol is the capital of a district of the same name, located in the lower reaches of the river oasis of Zeravshan. According to the population census in 1989 Qorakol then had 16,700 inhabitants, a calculation for 2009 are that there is the population of 24.102.

Qorakol is located on the railway line from Turkmenabat in Turkmenistan to Kogon; of economic importance, especially the cultivation of cotton. The survey to the city was in 1980. The majority of the population are ethnic Uzbeks.

The city's name is an etymological root for the native of Uzbekistan breed of Karakul sheep whose lamb skins are traded as Persian.
