Raad Hammoudi

Ra ʿ ad Hamudi (Arabic رعد حمودي, DMG Ra ʿ ad Hamudi according to the English transliteration Hamoodi or Hamoody; born April 20, 1958 in Baghdad ) is a former Iraqi football player. The goalkeeper is still to this day as one of the most famous football players of his country. In April 2009 he was elected president of the Iraqi NOC.

Life

Already at a young age Hamudi was a regular goalkeeper for Iraqi first division club tradition and Baghdad al- Schorta. In 1976 he was at age 18 the youngest goalie in the history of the Iraqi national team, as he against Turkey for the first time in goal on February 8th, 1976 in a 0-0 draw in Baghdad. In the Gulf Cup of the same year Hamudi finished in second place, in 1979, he was in Baghdad in 1984 in Muscat winner of the competition. He also reached the fourth place in the Asian Cup 1976. When discharged from the CISM Military Football World Cup Hamudi won this tournament in both 1977 (including a 4-2 win over the selection of the Federal Republic of Germany ) and 1979 (including a 4-0 win over the selection of Austria) with the Iraqi selection. In both finals Iraq was able to put against the teams of Kuwait and Italy on penalties. In 1980 he was Iraqi champions.

However, his greatest success was the participation in the World Cup in 1986, when he played two of the three group matches. A year later he gave on 21 February in the 0-2 defeat against Kuwait his farewell game. Overall, he had 1976-1987 137 games contested.

1989 Hamudi fled from Iraq to neighboring Jordan, where he worked as a freelance dealer. Only after the Iraq war, he returned in 2003 back to Iraq, where he was president of his former clubs al- Shorta. On April 4, 2009, he was elected as the new President of NPK.
