Raard

Raard is a village in the municipality Dongeradeel in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located west of Dokkum and has 230 inhabitants (2008 ).

History

Raard was built on a mound, but this is already partially removed. This is particularly evident on the north side of the mound. It is believed to have lived before our time counting people in Raard.

Also, can still be found in Raard a church from the 13th century. It was built in the Romanesque style and is dedicated to John the Baptist.

On 31 Dec 2012 raced a 42 year old woman with her car in a crowd of people, injuring 17 people. In the New Year's Eve celebration in the Frisian village, also suffered serious injuries three of the 17 spectators. The car driver was not intoxicated, according to the police. Against a clock at night, about 40 people were standing around the campfire in the village, as the car raced at high speed of about 60 km / h in the crowd.
