Rachid Boudjedra

Rachid Boudjedra (Arabic رشيد بوجدرة, DMG Rasid Būǧidra; born September 5, 1941 in Aïn Beida, Algeria) is an Algerian writer and screenwriter.

Life

Boudjedra received a traditional Muslim upbringing in Algeria and Tunisia. In 1960 he took part in the Algerian liberation war and was wounded. He went on to study mathematics and philosophy in Algiers and France, where he received a degree in philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris and took over teaching at various universities.

Boudjedra processed at its plant childhood trauma and the contradictions of the post-colonial Algerian society. Initially, he wrote in French. Since 1981 he has published in Arabic and translated his works into French. In addition to novels, he wrote poems, essays and screenplays.
