Radio Sawa

Radio Sawa is funded by the U.S. Congress radio station that broadcasts a program in Arabic for the Middle East. He is subordinate to the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG ), which is responsible for the operation of any non-military international broadcasts of the U.S.. The technical operation of transmission facilities is subject to the International Broadcasting Bureau ( IBB). The program is produced by Middle East Broadcasting Networks ( MBN ).

The program of Radio Sawa made on 23 March 2002 for the first time on the air. The station went from an extensive reform program of the Voice of America (VOA ), the official international broadcasting in the U.S., out. The Arabic program had the VOA a small audience, the programs were too heavy word, saying, especially the political interests of the listeners in the Arab countries at only a little. Thus, the programs were set in the Arabic language of the VOA and Radio Sawa replaced by a new program scheme.

The program consists of:

  • News from the region, the world and the U.S.,
  • Information current contributions and
  • Arabic, English and Spanish pop music.

Target audience is a young, Arabic -speaking audience in the region. According to information Radio Sawa is committed against the " highest standards of journalism, the free market of ideas, intelligence and culture of his audience and a modern, forward-looking program ".

The radio program is now represented behind the Al Hurra TV, which first went on the air in 2004. Both Radio Sawa and Al Hurra are produced in studios in the Washington suburb of Springfield. The building was rented by the Boeing Company.
