Rahon (Doubs)

Rahon is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rahon is at 540 m, 3 km north of Sancey -le- Grand and about 26 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). Former street village extends in the Jura, in the northern part of the basin of Sancey ( Vallon de Sancey ), at the western foot of the plateau of Belvoir and south of Lomont.

The area of ​​5.69 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Sancey which forms a roughly 2 -km-wide level and is on average 540 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The eastern boundary runs partly on foot, partly on the slopes of Mont de Belvoir. To the west, the municipality's area extends to the heights of Orve (640 m ) and the Bois de Fayts, on the 671 meters, the highest elevation of Rahon is achieved. In between is a Talfurche without above-ground rivers, which leads west to the valley of Chazot.

Neighboring communities of Rahon are Vellerot -lès- Belvoir in the north, the east Belvoir, Sancey -le-Long in the south and Orve in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Rahon belonged to the dominion of Belvoir. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The chapel was built in 1945 stands in the protection of nine lime trees that were planted in 1809. The mansion northwest of the village dates from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Population

With 123 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Rahon is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 190 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1950s.

Economy and infrastructure

Rahon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Sancey -le- Grand to L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs. Another road connection with Belvoir.
