Rainald of Urslingen

Reinold VI. of Urslingen (* around 1364, † 1442 ) was Duke Urslingen. He came from the Swabian primordial noble Urslingen.

At the time of the Investiture Controversy between Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII were his ancestors on the part of the Hohenstaufen and the Duchy of Spoleto in Italy, had won. Although the control of the Italian possessions after the fall of the Hohenstaufen were lost, the family went on to the title of Duke.

Life

He was a son of Konrad VII of Urslingen and Verena von Krenkingen. When his father died, he inherited his possessions in Swabia, including the castle and town of Schiltach. Short of money, he sold Schiltach in 1381 for 6,000 gold florins to Count Eberhard II " the Mild " of Württemberg. In a 1417 painting he is depicted as a member of the Council of Eberhard.

And his mother's family had once possessed the castle and town Tiengen, rose Duke Reinold inheritance rights to them. On August 1, 1415 he attacked the city with about 2,000 -strong army of mercenaries, known as the " Great Company ". The army besieged the city and was able to break through the city walls and enter the city, but was eventually repelled by the population. To commemorate the victory, the city celebrates the Schwyzertag today.

Numerous documents testify to the eventful life of Reinold VI. of Urslingen in its battles to its rights and claims, but he fought mostly at a loss - the times of knights came to an end - as the episode in Tiengen only too clearly shows.

He died in 1442, on 11 November of the same year he was already dead, he was buried in Weiterdingen.
