Features

The Regenbogenelritze is about five to eight inches long. It generally has a translucent pink to golden color and a silvery - black stripes on its sides. Your belly is golden to bluish and their fins are reddish approaches. In addition, large parts of their skin often have a bluish tinge. The adult male Regenbogenelritze changes its appearance during the breeding season and then has temporarily blue ventral fins, a purple head and a red nose.

The natural range are the southern United States, particularly Alabama and Georgia. Originally Regenbogenelritze was endemic in the river system of the Mobile River. There it is found mainly in the catchment areas of the Alabama River and the Coosa River. Meanwhile, there are populations in some rivers that belong to the catchment area of ​​the Tennessee River. The Regenbogenelritze is kept as ornamental fish in both tanks and in ponds.
