Rakiura Track

The Rakiura Track is a 29 km hiking trail on the island of Iceland Stewart in New Zealand. He is one of the Great Walks. The path follows to large parts of the coast and passes this small estuaries, large bays and mudflats. Then he crossed in its middle part steep, overgrown with bush hill.

The path is located in the Rakiura National Park and can be completed in a period of between one and three days. Along the path there are two cabins, each with 24 beds at Port William and the North Arm of Paterson Inlet, where to stay, many hikers.

Large parts of the path are designed as piles ways in which wire mesh is attached as an anti-slip. In a few places they are missing boardwalks, there is sinking of the path because of the large amount of rain on Stewart Iceland often in the mud.

Overall, the path is in good condition and has easy to medium difficulty. The specified length of 29 km does not include the several kilometers long sections sealed road at the beginning and end of the track at the Half Moon Bay.

The two shelters are also equipped with fire wood. This is often flown in by helicopter because roads are missing, and visitors should not cut down trees themselves.
