Ramón Alva de la Canal

Ramón Alva de la Canal ( born August 29, 1892 in Mexico City, † April 4, 1985 ) was a Mexican artist.

Biography

Alva studied at the Academia de San Carlos Alfredo Ramos Martínez and assisted in its open-air painting school in Santa Anita Zacatlamanco, Iztapalapa. From 1920 he was a teacher of painting at the Academia de San Carlos. As a member of the Sindicato de Pintores he produced in 1922 the first fresco mural of Mexico of the 20th century. In the same year he learned with Jean Charlot, the technique of wood engraving. Alva joined the group in 1928 revolutionary painter " 30-30 " and became a member of the artist group " Estridentistas ", a Mexican art movement that coined the term Stridentism ( Estridentismo ).

He lectured at many schools, especially in schools of the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP ). With nearly 60 years he was director of the university school of sculpture at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa.

In his artistic work, he focused largely on book illustrations, murals, wood painting and stage painting. The Academia de Artes he was a member since 1981.

1989 was directed Javier Audiracs a documentary about the artist.
