Rankbach Railway

The rank brook course is a 14.253 km long railway line from Renningen to Böblingen in the southwest region of Stuttgart. The rank brook course is named after the creek Rank. The track is a branch line, which is treated in terms of signals as a main course.

History

The rank Bach railway was opened on October 1, single track 1915. On September 29, 1970, the passenger traffic between the race rings and Sindelfingen has been set. The S-Bahn Stuttgart was at the time in the planning stage and needed capacity on portions of the route between Stuttgart and Würzburg and the Gäubahn. For the relocation of freight trains on the rank brook course, the line was expanded in the early 1970s and electrified since April 10, 1972 and thus obtained the required capacity. The maximum line speed was increased from 60 km / h to 80 km / h. Since 10 June 2010, the railway passenger transport has again rank as part of the Stuttgart S- Bahn network. The regular operation began on 14 June 2010, on the route to Böblingen Maichingen. The remaining portion to Renningen was opened on December 8, 2012 on the double now in full-length track.

Operation

The track is used by freight and the S-Bahn.

Freight traffic

In freight transport, the route is

  • To drive around the track Böblingen - Vaihingen - Westbahnhof - Prague tunnel - Zuffenhausen - Kornwestheim RBF, thus there provided needed capacity for the Stuttgart S -Bahn and lost slopes are avoided.
  • For the supply of parts for Daimler factory in Sindelfingen
  • For shipment of cars assembled there to Bremen, which are intended for export overseas.

Every day, about 40 freight trains on the road, most of which start or finish Sindelfingen.

From late March to mid-October 2008 and early January to early December 2012, the distance between Sindelfingen and Renningen was closed because of the S60 removal. All freight trains were diverted via the Gäubahn and freight connecting curve at the Stuttgart Nord train station to Kornwestheim.

Passenger

After the adjustment of the passenger traffic in 1970 by Renningen to Sindelfingen drove until 10 December 2004, only still single regional trains under the schedule name of R71 Sindelfingen Boeblingen to Horb. They were called " Daimler trains " because their schedule was adapted to the times of the layer located at the train station in Sindelfingen Plant, Daimler Chrysler AG.

Extension to S-Bahn line S60

For the S -Bahn operation almost the entire route had expanded to double track, the Böblingen station rebuilt, all the stations and platforms newly built and the level crossings are eliminated.

The first phase " Böblingen " was completed in late March 2007. The main work for the second planning section " Sindelfingen " took place in 2008, the track was so until October 2008 completely blocked by the end of March. For the third phase of construction " Magstadt racing rings " of the zoning decision came in late summer 2008. 2009 should start the construction work and the line to open in late 2010. Because of additional agreements for the replacement of level crossings in Magstadt and Renningen (eg land acquisition ) the proposed commissioning shifted first to the end of 2011 and was eventually scheduled for late 2012. The S60 went on 8 December 2012, the total length in operation.

The expansion cost at least 151 million euros, of which 13 million euros for 6 km of noise barriers. The German railway also expects due to supplements substantial additional costs to presenting new numbers in spring 2013. The project started in the late 1990s were expenses of 77 million marks in conversation, according to a planning and cost level in 2002 of 90 million euros were estimated.

Commissioning of the S60

The VRS and the German railway noted that an S -Bahn shuttle operation between Böblingen, Sindelfingen and Maichingen from summer 2010 is technically and financially possible at a reasonable additional cost of signaling. By decision of the Transport Committee of 30 September 2009, there was June 14, 2010 Monday to Friday to shuttle operation in 30 - minute increments from 5:00 bis 23:00 clock. Since June 12, 2011, this clock is also on weekends and holidays. For use are S -Bahn trainsets of DB Class 420 Trains have connection in Böblingen to S1 by Mr. Berg, to S1 from Stuttgart and Schönbuchbahn.

Since 8 December 2012, the amplifier features of the S6 Stuttgart -Leonberg be ( - Because the city) through bound to Böblingen. Here, so far to Weil der Stadt trains running are winged as S6/S60 in Renningen: The rear railcar travels to Böblingen, the / the front (s ) to Weil der Stadt. The other recent S6- amplifier units were, with one exception - now as S60 - extended from Leonberg to Böblingen; also operates only the rear railcar between the race rings and Böblingen. Outside of rush hour, there are shuttle trains between Renningen and Böblingen, without a direct connection Renningen. In Boeblingen, however, exist in all layers schedule is easily accessible to S1 and to the Schönbuchbahn.

At the breakpoint Maichingen only the eastern track has a platform, it will be operated in both directions. Therefore, moving in the direction of Böblingen S -Bahn trains between Maichingen and Sindelfingen have to use the opposite track.
