The Rapperswil railway station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB ) is a railway junction in Rapperswil -Jona in the canton of St. Gallen. It is located in Rapperswil SG to immediately adjacent to the lake location.

History

The station was built in 1895 by the architect Karl August Hiller.

End of the 80s wanted SBB replace the old building with a new building, but the project has been neglected for various reasons and only in 2001 the plans were brought out and revised again. Then the Swiss Heritage was able to convince in several interviews that the station is to be maintained, and a renovation project has been developed. Between March 2007 and August 2008, the station was renovated.

For the renovation of the railway tracks 2013-2016 francs 94 million has been budgeted.

Track systems

The tracks of the SBB consist of seven tracks at platforms and some sidings. The track 1 is located immediately adjacent to the station building. There runs the S7 as a rule. The Pre-Alpine Express ( inter-regional ) as well as the regional train to Linthal use the tracks 2 and 5 on the tracks 3 and 4, the features of the Zurich S-Bahn ride. The tracks 6 and 7 are used by the S40, the SOB.

Rapperswil is for the S7, S15 and S40 terminus of the Zurich Transport Network ( CRVO ). The S5 runs over Rapperswil to Pfäffikon. The following S -Bahn lines of the ZVVs operate the station.

Long-distance traffic
