Voralpen-Express

Pre-Alpine Express, in short UAE, is the name of a long-distance train of the South Eastern Railway (SOB ), connecting with St. Gallen in 1992 Lucerne via Arth -Goldau, Pfäffikon and Rapperswil. Until December 14, 2013 it ran until Roman horn. The train runs every hour mainly with modernized and air-conditioned standard car, I ( Revvivo cars ).

History

Due to the close cooperation of the Bodensee- Toggenburg -Bahn (BT), the SOB and the Swiss Federal Railways ( SBB), since 1940, ie since the continuous electrification of the entire route, express trains between Roman Horn and Arth -Goldau. Rolling stock and staff were asked together. From 1947 onwards, first a pair of trains was extended to Lucerne, the so-called " Direct Line East Switzerland Central Switzerland " was born. However, the number of direct coatings remained low. In 1981 there were two trains to three trains and from Lucerne, but to / from Arth -Goldau as regional trains with other Zugsnummer drove ( train pairs 966-1529/1532-975, Lucerne, on / off 10.15/11.27, 1556-983 from 16:19 980-1557/1564-987 to / from 16.05/17.42 ). The driving time St. Gallen Lucerne or vice versa was 2:15 to 2:48 and only the pair of trains 980/987 led a buffet car ( BT ). Other pairs of trains with buffet trolley wrong only (Roman Horn ) St. Gallen - Arth -Goldau.

1982 was introduced in Switzerland the regular timetable and then every two hours perverted a pair of trains novel Horn Lucerne, the driving time to St. Gallen- Lucerne generally fell to 2:12, while the buffet trolley operation was abandoned. As of 1991, the train with Intercity cars was led behind a locomotive. In the course book 1992/93 first appeared the name " Pre-Alpine Express ," from May 1998, the trains were classified as Interregio. Having already regional trains of BT and SOB were bound in Rapperswil in the intermediate hours, perverted from May 1995 onwards in the intermediate hours a fast train with the same travel times as the UAE to / from Arth- Goldau, 1997 Revvivo - cars were for the use.

1999 the Pre-Alpine Express is a joint venture between BT, SOB and SBB ( 1/3, since the merger of BT and SOB 2002: 2/3 SOB, 1/3 SBB) and the trains were hourly with " Revvivo " cars made in the UAE design as Lokpendel. Between Horn and Roman Lucerne thirteen pairs of trains were offered (first novel train horn from 06:34, Luzern from 07:40 ), and two trains novel horn or St. Gallen Rapperswil arrived in the evening and two, three trains on weekdays Rapperswil- Roman horn in the morning.

Because of the required 50 - per-thousand steep ramps between Pfäffikon or Arth -Goldau and Altmatt trains with more than six cars ( basic composition plus an additional carriage ) bias or thrust and comprises providing or putting away of the reserve cars more expensive to operate. First, why was attempted, the unamortized Revvivo cars for sale, but did not succeed. Finally, the South Eastern Railway was with the purchasers ( Confederation and cantons) agree that after the commissioning of the S -Bahn St. Gallen 2013, a transition plan is implemented that allows the almost complete absence of reinforcements. At the time horizon 2019 new rolling stock is to be procured.

As of December 15, 2013, the responsibility for the entire Zugslauf at Südostbahn. The new S -Bahn concept targets the Pre-Alpine Express in St. Gallen, whereby a composition is free, which is not sufficient to extend all compositions on seven cars (respectively two railcars plus six cars ). It must, therefore, on the last generation NPZ - wagons still procured by the BT and the old SOB, be used. Drawback is that these cars are not air conditioned (which by then was true only on the control car ) is no longer guaranteed, so the full comfort.

By December 2013, the Pre-Alpine Express took on the St. Gallen - Roman horn section, the function of a regional train and stopped at most of the stations. In today's operational area (St. Gallen, Lucerne ) the stops frequency corresponds to a RegioExpress. In the Roadmap, the Pre-Alpine Express appeared but by December 2013 as the Interregional (IR ), although there was an ordered service of regional traffic. The timetable change in December 2013 UAE has been introduced as a separate train category.

The SOB owned two control car that BT no. 1959-66 were of SOB and BT for the " Direct Line" shuttle trains with high-performance engine BDe 4/4 procured and provided with a uniform green / cream paint. The SBB sat meanwhile their ( less powerful ) BDe 4/4 a, from 1982 RBe 4/4 with BDt. Already in 1944, BT introduced its first buffet car used in 1956 was followed by the SOB, but in 1982 with the introduction of synchronized timetable this type of car disappeared. When the high-speed trains in 1991 received its current name, also changed their appearance. SOB and BT procured cream / green IV coaches ( air-conditioned intercity car, now sold to SBB ). The BT put her then-new Umrichterlokomotiven Re 4 /4 ( later re 456, identical to SZU and VHB locomotives) and the SOB her today (again) the SBB belonging Re 4/4III. These were replaced by the four former SBB Re 4/4IV-Prototypen (now referred to as Re 446). Due to the 50 - thousandth steep ramps the control compositions were relatively short, on days with a large volume of traffic had to double unit to be driven with preload or pusher service.

Rolling stock used 1999 to December 2013

Since 1999, the Pre-Alpine Express is a commuter train again. SBB Re 4/4II presented two and four SOB Re 4 /4 ( Re 446 and Re 456). The compositions were, with the exception of the control car exclusively from Revvivo cars that have been converted from standard cars, I. Normally, a first- class car was behind the loco queued (A), it was followed by a buffet car (BR ) with vending machines, two to second class ( B) and a control car with baggage compartment ( BDt ). With a reserve cars the load limit of the locomotives was achieved at 50 per thousand. If additional reinforcement cars were required pusher service had to be made between Pfäffikon or Arth -Goldau to Altmatt.
