Raška District

Raška (Serbian Рашки округ, Raški okrug ) is a county in the southwest of central Serbia.

It consists of the following municipalities ( opstine ):

This district has 2002 300.274 inhabitants according to the census. The main administrative center is the city of Kraljevo.

In the area of Kraljevo is the monastery Zica. The spiritual center of the Serbian Middle Ages was completed in 1220 and soon became the center of the Serbian Archiepiscopate.

The Studenica Monastery was completed in the late 12th century and represents a generous endowment of the Serbian prince Stefan Nemanja dar. It has rich ornaments on and is home to many icons and a large library. After it became the Prince monk and pulled Hilandar in the monastic republic of Mount Athos, his eldest son Stefan Nemanjić care of the monastery.

One of King Stefan Uroš I. Foundation is the monastery Sopoćani from 1260, which is an example of European painting of the Middle Ages, and was declared in 1979 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The economic focus of the district form the industry ( Magnohrom ), the locomotive works and railway factory in Kraljevo, timber processing ( Jasen ) and operation " Electric Srbija ".
