Rassower Strom

The Rassower current is due to the cusped headland between Wieker Bodden and Bodden Breetzer and is part of the North Rügen Bodden chain. It separates the heartland of the island of Rügen, the Muttland, from the peninsula Wittow in the north. At the narrowest point it is only 350 meters wide.

In the course of the road L 30 leads the Wittower ferry across the Rassower current. She is a ferry for pedestrians and vehicles up to their total allowable weight of 30 tons. On the northern bank of the ferry dock in Wieker district Wittower Ferry lies. On the southern shore is the ferry dock between the hamlets Vaschvitz and fishing village of the municipality of Trent.

In severe winters, when the waters of the lagoon freeze, the Rassower flow through the flow to and from the Great Jasmund remains largely ice-free and offers many waterfowl refuge.
