Rau von Holzhausen

The widely ramified family of Rau of Holzhausen belonged to the Hessian nobility and althessischen and middle Rhine imperial knights.

It came from a family of nobles of Marburg Nordeck Michel Bach. The old family of Holzhausen led in their coat of arms a cross beam; this coat went on after the extinction of the von Holzhausen on the family of rough, while the old nordeckische Ancestral Arms was omitted.

The poor, often erroneous, source location refers to the total of all branches of the family. Secured data is mentioned in a document, but birth and death dates and periods are often unsecured and look for the highest possible probability of different data sources often subject to change. Many genealogical details, even the assignment of members of the House, remain unclear.

In 1488 the castle and court Nordeck came to a branch of Rau of Holzhausen family, which was then referred to as Rau von Holzhausen to Nordeck (or Nordeck ). As this branch of the family in 1607 was extinguished in the male line, enfeoffed Landgrave Moritz of Hesse- Kassel another branch of Rau of Holzhausen family with it.
