Raúl González Gutiérrez ( born January 8, 1970 in Valladolid ) is a Spanish handball coach and former handball player.

Career as a player

Association

The 1.85 m wide right-handed was used mostly on back center of the room. He began in his hometown at Michelin ACD or its successor club BM Valladolid with the handball. Since 1987 he was a member of the squad for the first team in the league ASOBAL. With Valladolid, he won the Copa del Rey de Balonmano 2005. Internationally, he reached the final of the EHF Cup 1998/1999, the Euro -City Cup in 2000 and the European Cup Winners' Cup 2003/04.

Due to its merits for BM Valladolid his shirt number 14 is no longer assigned there.

National

With the Spanish national González won at the 1996 Olympics, the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1996 and 1998 silver. They were the first medals for the Spanish selection at all. He played 57 international matches in which he scored 55 goals.

Career as a coach

After his career in late 2005 Raúl González assistant coach Talant Dujshebaev BM Ciudad Real, whose successor BM Atlético Madrid. After the withdrawal of Madrid in the summer of 2013, he was without a club.

In January 2014 he took over as coach at the Macedonian club RK Vardar Skopje and signed until 2016.
