Raul Midón

Raul Midón ( born March 14, 1966) is an American singer- songwriter from New York. Midón is known for his virtuoso guitar playing and his a cappella elements that he brings to his songs.

Life

The blind musician was born in New Mexico. His parents are Argentinean and African- American descent. Due to the lack of protection of the eyes in an incubator he became blind and his brother shortly after birth. At four years old, his father taught him to play the drums. Later Midón attended a school for the blind and then an elite academy in Santa Fe. He then enrolled at the University of Miami.

Musical career

Midón began his musical career as a backing vocalist of various famous artists, including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias and Jose Feliciano. 2002 Midón started a solo career and collaborated with jazz greats such as Paquito D' Rivera, Dave Valentin, Dave Samuels, Herbie Hancock and Claudio Roditi.

In 2005 he released his first solo album State of Mind, which got consistently good reviews. For this album Stevie Wonder contributed a guest post. 2007 appeared another studio album, entitled A World Within a World, from which the single Pick Somebody Up was disengaged.
