Raul Solnado

Raul Solnado, actually Raul Augusto de Almeida Solnado (* October 19, 1929 in Lisbon, Portugal, † August 8, 2009 in Lisbon, Portugal ) was a Portuguese comedian, who as a theater, film and television actor and humorist the most significant comedian applicable in Portugal in the 20th century. He was also a director of several theater and worked as a screenwriter and producer. Raul Solnado is considered one of the greats of the Portuguese film and the Portuguese culture.

Life

Raul Solnado was born the son of Virginia Augusta de Almeida and by Bernardino Solnado. As early as 1947 he stood on theater stages, but until 1952 he worked professionally as an actor in various theaters. In 1956 he married the Brazilian actress Joselita Alvarenga, with whom he has two children. From his marriage to a Dane comes his son Mikkel Solnado, who was with the group as a singer Gabriel Flies quite well known in Denmark.

In 1962 he published a record with various sketches, which became the most successful ever sold in Portugal plate. In 1969 he had his first comedy show Zip -Zip, which has been the trend for the Portuguese comedy and influenced generations of comedians after him.

In the 1960s and 1980s, he was seen in several major theaters in Portugal as the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in Lisbon, in major productions. In 1964 he founded the Teatro Villaret, named after the actor Joao Villaret, whose director he was until 1970. 1999 saw the establishment of the Casa de Artistas, whose chief he remained until his death in 2009.

His autobiography was published in 1991 under the title: A vida nao se perdeu.

On August 8, 2009, the comedian Solnado died at the Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon from the effects of heart disease and was buried at the Cemitério dos Olivais. Many Portuguese celebrities paid tribute to him, and even the President of the Republic, Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva and the Prime Minister José Sócrates praised him in official statements as the greatest comedian of Portuguese culture.

Solnados work

Raul Solnados career in theater, radio, cinema and television stretched across 60 years. He starred in many films, turned television dramas, was active in radio and also had their own broadcasts. In programs such as Zip -Zip, A vista de or Oresta Cornelia de Sao Cantigas he displayed his skills. His most significant feature film as an actor was Balada de praia de caes ( Ballad of the dog beach ) on the novel by Jose Cardoso Pires. In plays by Agustina Bessa - Luís and other Portuguese dramatists were part of his repertoire.

As a comedian, he took mainly the Portuguese daily life on the grain.

Solnado has been awarded the highest in Portugal to be awarded prizes.
