Raúl Vicente Amarilla

Raul Vicente Amarilla Vera ( born June 19, 1960 in Luque, Paraguay ) is a former football player and coach.

Career

Amarilla debuted at the age of 17 years for his hometown club Sportivo Luqueño. Soon, in 1980 at the age of 20, he moved to Spain to Real Zaragoza. From there he was initially hired for a season at Racing Santander. In the 1982/83 season with 19 goals, he was the second best shooter in the Spanish league. Between 1982 and 1983 he played two games for Spain's U -21, which it seemed to him not later possible to play for the Paraguayan national team. In 1985 he moved to FC Barcelona. Only in the first season he was still one of the starting eleven Barça. In the following two seasons, he was only a reserve player. In 1988, he went back home to Club Olimpia. The second half of 1989, he played on loan with Club América. In 1990 he won with Club Olimpia the Copa Libertadores, the Super Copa Sudamericana Recopa Sudamericana and the. At the 2006 World Cup, he worked as an assistant coach of Paraguay on the side of Aníbal Ruiz. After Ruiz resigned from his post after the World Cup, Amarilla was an interim basis Paraguay coach, Gerardo Martino took over before 2007.
