Rawhi Fattouh

Rauhi Fattuh (Arabic روحي فتوح, DMG Rauhi Fattuh; * 1949 ) was determined by the death of Yasser Arafat on 11 November 2004 to the Interim President of the Palestinian Authority. He had that role until the holding of elections, ie for a period of 60 days, stopped.

As a member of Arafat's Fatah movement Fattuh was on 10 March 2004 Parliament Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council. In this he was elected in 1996 as MP for the city of Rafah ( in Gaza ) and served as secretary to the Council, until he in the government Ahmed Kureis obtained the post of the Minister of Agriculture in November 2003.

In March 2004, the majority faction Fatah nominated him as their candidate for the post of President of Parliament. 34 Fatah MPs voted for, 10 against him. His appointment as interim president of the Fatah-dominated PLO was not surprising. When Arafat became ill, the Palestinian leadership agreed on 10 November to Fattuh as interim president for a period of 60 days, according to the legal system of the Palestinian Authority elections must be held. Fattuh took this post the day after Arafat's death.

Fattuh is usually regarded as moderate, because he supported Ahmed spa as Arafat's successor. Spa is said to have played a constructive role in the negotiations of Oslo; besides, he had already represented in the past Arafat.
