Red Rat

Red Rat (actually, Wallace Wilson, born January 17, 1978 in Saint Ann 's Bay, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica) is a Jamaican ragga and dancehall singer. He is known for his often humorous lyrics and a fun style.

Life

Wallace Wilson comes from a musical family, his father had played in the band Byron Lee & the Dragonaires guitar, a brother was bassist for Diana King, another was the drummer of the band KRU. Wilson was still in high school when he first collaborated in 1995 on recordings for a song and sang as a guest deejay with KRU Can not Live Without You. During the recordings, he met the producer Danny Browne of Main Street Records know who helped him to continue building his talent and to gain experience on the side of more famous Main Street artists such as Degree, Buccaneer and Papa San. Still at school took on Wilson Itsy Bitsy, his first single. His father, however, insisted that he should first focus on school, so Wilson graduated first out of school before he devoted himself to intense career in the music business.

In 1997 the time had come and he brought under the stage name Red Rat his debut album out. Oh No .... It's Red Rat! was with hits like Tight Up Skirt, Cruise and Big Man Little Yute quickly becoming one of the best selling albums Greensleeves. The gained in the wake of the first album notoriety led to live performances all over the Caribbean and worldwide.

His second album, I'm a Big Kid Now followed in 2000 and was again a success. Red Rat looked after with in joint productions with international artists such as Treach of Naughty by Nature or Groove Armada. In the following years he decided it anyway, take a break with his own recordings, instead of producing the other musicians and to have more time for his family.
