Redes Energéticas Nacionais

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais SGPS, S. A. (formerly Rede Eléctrica Nacional SA) is a Portuguese power company. It was founded in August 1994 in Lisbon. The REN shares are listed in the PSI 20.

The main activity of the company is to ensure the public electricity supply in the country. The aim is to ensure the stability and security of electricity supply. Tasks are the operation and development of the high-voltage lines in mainland Portugal and the management of power plant sites and the management of public tenders for the construction and operation of new power plants.

The company is also involved in the storage and transport of liquefied natural gas. It owns and operates a natural gas liquefaction plant in Sines.

On February 2, 2012, announced by the government in Lisbon that the Chinese State Grid Corporation, 25 % goes to the share capital of REN. The purchase price was 287.15 million euros.

Ownership structures

The REN shares have on the Portuguese Stock Index 20 a weighting of 1.37 %.
